Stuart Orenstein, MD
Retired October 2007
Los Angeles Medical Center
After working for 25 years in the Psychiatry department at the Los Angeles Medical Center, I retired from SCPMG in 2007. After retiring I moved to Santa Barbara, California – the most beautiful place in the USA!
I began acting many years ago with a group of friends who put on a show once a year. Being retired has allowed me to pursue my interest in theatre and performing arts -- I have appeared in 25 plays, two movies and one dance/movement performance. I am also on the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara Performing Arts League. My current project is being assistant to the director of the world premier play "Thru The Fire."
I’m also enjoying being a student again, as I attend classes at Santa Barbara City College in theatre, music, film studies and other various courses. I’m proud to say I am on the President’s Honor Roll and am a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges.
My wife and I are active in our community and work with several charitable institutions, both local and international. I also visit local middle school and high school classrooms and give presentations to students on what it is like to be a doctor and an actor.
As if all of our activities didn't keep us busy enough, my wife and I have three grandsons and a fourth grandchild on the way! We have family spread around the world and over the next nine months we have trips planned to Anaheim, Philadelphia, Europe (England, Scandinavia, Estonia, and Russia), Mexico (twice), Puerto Rico, and Seattle.
None of this would have been possible for me without two things: my wonderful wife, Joanne Schoenfeld Orenstein and the great retirement benefits from SCPMG. One funny story about our benefits -- I attended one of the investment seminars sponsored by SCPMG and at lunch I sat next to the guest who was presenting to us about one of the investment funds. She said to me "I have never seen a retirement plan as good as the ones you and your partners have!" I couldn't agree more.
